Bringing Business Priorities to the State Capitol

Recently, the Chamber joined our partners in the United Chamber Advocacy Network at the State Capitol to meet with legislators and discuss issues affecting businesses throughout the Greater Sacramento region.

These conversations are an important part of ensuring that lawmakers hear directly from the business community. From affordability and regulatory challenges to policies that affect employers and local economic growth, the Chamber continues to show up and advocate for our members.

A special thank-you to the Roseville Chamber and CMTA, the California Manufacturers & Technology Association, for hosting the evening reception and helping create space for meaningful conversation and connection. The Rancho Cordova Area Chamber was also honored to host the luncheon prior to the legislative visits.

Local Signage Rules: Helping Businesses Stay Visible

The City of Rancho Cordova is considering updates to portions of its Municipal Code, including rules that could affect how local businesses promote themselves.

The Chamber has proposed convening a business task force to discuss practical standards for feather flags, A-frame signs, banners, and other temporary marketing displays. These tools are often important, affordable ways for businesses to attract customers, especially small businesses and storefronts that depend on visibility.

If your business uses temporary signage or has experienced challenges with visibility, permitting, or enforcement, the Chamber wants to hear from you. Member feedback will help us advocate for rules that support attractive commercial areas while giving businesses reasonable, affordable ways to reach customers.

Health Care Affordability for Employers

California businesses, particularly small and mid-sized employers, continue to face rising health care premiums. The Chamber is monitoring this issue closely because health care costs directly affect employers’ ability to provide coverage, raise wages, and create jobs.

California Businesses for Affordable Health Care has raised concerns about several proposed benefit mandates that the coalition estimates could add significant premium costs. While access to care is important, affordability must remain part of the conversation. A benefit is not truly accessible if rising premiums force businesses or employees to reduce coverage.

The Chamber will continue to support policies that consider both access and affordability for employers and their teams.

Regional Growth: AI and Robotics Ecosystem Moves Forward

Rancho Cordova continues to position itself as a regional hub for innovation, workforce development, and emerging technology.

The Chamber supports AiR Rancho Cordova, the city-driven AI and robotics ecosystem led in partnership with the City of Rancho Cordova and the Human Machine Collaboration Institute. This work creates an important opportunity to connect local businesses with AI education, workforce development, pilot projects, and procurement opportunities.

As AI policy continues to evolve, the Chamber also sees a critical role in helping ensure that future rules reflect the real-world experiences of small and mid-sized employers. By staying engaged early, our business community can help shape conversations around responsible innovation, workforce readiness, and practical implementation.

Downtown DOVA and Future Investment

The Chamber Board supports Downtown DOVA and its potential to become a more connected destination for business, entertainment, community activity, and future investment.

As plans move forward, the Chamber is uniquely positioned to connect existing businesses, entrepreneurs, and community partners with opportunities created by the project. We also want to ensure that the local business community has a voice in shaping what comes next.

Legislation and Ballot Measures Under Review

The Chamber and our advocacy partners continue to monitor legislation and statewide ballot measures that could affect business operations, affordability, economic development, and job creation throughout California.

Current priorities include proposed legislation related to California antitrust law, consumer discounts, environmental review, taxation, housing, and personal savings protections. The Chamber’s Government Relations Committee continues to review measures, evaluate potential impacts, and recommend positions when formal action is appropriate.

These issues matter because they shape the cost of doing business, the ability to grow, and the long-term economic health of our region.
