Leadership Rancho Cordova Class XVIII Project

Seating Wall at the Sacramento Children’s Museum

About This Project

As part of the Leadership Rancho Cordova program, each class is required to research, select, and raise funds for a community-focused project designed to enhance Rancho Cordova. Class XVIII selected and completed the construction of a Seating Wall at the Sacramento Children’s Museum, located in Rancho Cordova on Prospect Park Drive.

The class successfully raised $40,000 to bring this project to life through corporate sponsorships and individual donations.

Since 2011, the Sacramento Children’s Museum has served as a vital community and educational resource for children and families throughout the Greater Sacramento area, welcoming more than 95,000 visitors in the year prior to the project’s completion. In 2021, the museum expanded to offer 10,000 square feet of interactive exhibit space, along with additional office, storage, and classroom areas. Hundreds of families have benefited from affordable memberships and free, family-friendly events. In recent years, the museum also introduced new programs to expand accessibility and impact, including increased offerings for children with special needs, a mobile museum serving local schools, and discounted admission for low-income families.

Prior to the project, the museum had only a small enclosed room with tables and chairs. Because it frequently hosted four or five classes per day, with more than 100 children attending daily, the space often felt cramped. As a result, children and their families regularly sat on the grass or along the parking lot curb while eating lunch or participating in outdoor activities.

The newly constructed Seating Wall now provides much-needed outdoor seating space, allowing children to participate in educational workshops and enjoy lunch in a safer, more comfortable setting away from the busy parking lot. The Seating Wall serves as an extension of the museum and enhances the overall visitor experience for families in the Rancho Cordova community.

Construction was completed in June of last year, and the Seating Wall was officially opened shortly thereafter.
