Seating Wall at the Sacramento Children’s Museum

about this project

As part of this program, each class must research, select, and raise funds for a community-focused project to enhance Rancho Cordova. This year’s Class XVIII is working to build a Seating Wall at the Sacramento Children’s Museum, located in Rancho Cordova on Prospect Park Drive.

We need to raise $40,000 for this project. Would you like to join us in this build?

Since 2011, Sacramento Children’s Museum has become a vital community and educational resource for children and families in the Greater Sacramento area, welcoming over 95,000 visitors last year alone. In 2021, the museum expanded to offer 10,000 square feet of interactive exhibit space, along with additional office, storage, and classroom areas. Hundreds of families enjoy their affordable memberships and participate in their free, family-friendly events. In recent years, they’ve also introduced new programs to enhance the Museum’s accessibility and impact, such as increased offerings for children with special needs, a mobile museum for schools, and discounted admission for low-income families.

While there is a small enclosed room with tables and chairs, the museum often hosts up to four or five classes per day, with over 100 children attending each day, making the space feel cramped. As a result, children and their families have had to sit on the patch of grass or parking lot curb when eating lunch or enjoying an outdoor activity. A new Seating Wall will offer much-needed space for children to participate in outdoor educational workshops and enjoy their lunches, serving as an extension of the museum and providing a comfortable place to sit away from the busy parking lot. We truly believe that, with the necessary funding, this Seating Wall will become a cherished addition that will enhance the experience for our community for many years to come.

The wall will be built over the next few months, with the grand opening set for early June. To bring this project to fruition, we are seeking corporate sponsorships and individual donations.
